IMPROVEMENT IN BIRTHING EXPERIENCE FOLLOWING CHANGE IN EPISIOTOMY PRACTICES AT TEACHING HOSPITAL IN INDIA

Background:- Episiotomy or perineotomy is a minor surgical procedure performed in labour room to facilitate delivery of the baby and prevent injury perineum. The analysis statistics revealed that rate episiotomy was extremely high (87%).The wound related complications resulted extended hospital stay unsatisfactory birthing experience among delivered women. Methodology:- Different methods root cause like Fish bone Five Why method were used at Pravara Rural hospital,Loni tertiary care hospital. Necessary educational programmes implemented policy decisions regarding indications made. Regular monitoring done sustain results. Results:-The historical data three months before project implementation 87.00% 1691 deliveries conducted. reduction predominantly observed multipara. At end eight weeks QI project, primipara multipara 70.20 % 20.00% respectively. overall incidence site infection (SSI) obstetric unit decreased from 3.2 percent 2.5 percent. Conclusion:- Implementation quality improvement helped significant episiotomy. It indirectly stay.
